We haven't been here in years.. but we wonder why now!

We enjoyed dim sum dishes on a Sunday and didn't regret it at all.

There was one particular server who was also a cashier that was so pleasant to have help us. Otherwise, some others aren't so nice and maybe bc of the language barrier.

I used to think this place is okay for dim sum, never outstanding, but this time I came early at 10:30am to order dim sum to go. I ordered 3 portions of shrimp dumplings and I had to throw them away. All the dishes I ordered tasted a bit off, the shrimp dumplings were spoiled, the steamed meat buns does not taste as it should, chow fun is a bit off in taste (weird tasting). The Fukkeen fried rice has a fishy taste. The only thing that's good is the deep fried sesame balls with bean paste fillings.
I think most items were leftovers from yesterday.
Gives me second thoughts in returning.
    I hope I don't get sick.

I've been coming to this Dim Sum place for awhile now! I come here if I want to sit down and enjoy dim sum at a restaurant. It's a great place for an early lunch IMO.

Food - I would kill for their fried shrimp balls. It's delicious. I have also tried their steamed shrimp dumpling, pork buns, shrimp rice noodle, shu mais, seasame balls, shrimp and chive dumplings, and much more. I recently tried their fish fried rice and their fried calamari which was also delicious - something I have ordered that wasn't the dumplings! I have some preferences for some dim sum but I mostly order the ones with the shrimp in it (if you can't tell already)! Their portions are very generous so this place gets you full easily! They have jasmine tea and oolong tea as options!

Service - The waitresses can be a little hard to communicate with because the restaurant can get busy! They give you a piece of paper and you mark how many of what you want, and they will bring it to you after. Some waitresses will try and serve you plates that you didn't order by walking around with trays of food or carts. DON'T GET HUSSLED! If you don't want it, don't order it! It's okay to say no. Some of the waitresses will also try to sell you on chicken or duck - again, DONT GET HUSSLED! Overall, from all my experiences they are friendly and will be prompt when asking for forks, refills for water or tea, and bringing extra napkins of that sort.

Environment - This place gets PACKED and LOUD! It's insane how busy this place gets. But that means this place gets good business. If you aren't used to eating at Chinese restaurants where everyone is talking or shouting across tables, or where you can hear a butcher chopping up meat for you or waitresses yelling orders across the restaurant. Then this place may not be for you.

Overall, I don't understand how this place has low reviews as it has not disappointed me yet. I hope it stays this way! I'll be back!

There's just something so familiar about the combination of white tablecloths, mismatched chairs, and sun-bleached Chinese New Year window appliqués-- all under the haze of a gaudy, blingin', glass chandelier. I both hate and love to say this, but King Kong Dim Sum encapsulates the Chinese food experience I had growing up. When you're welcomed by an abrasive (but well-meaning) hostess that walks you into a whirlwind of Canto chatter-- all the while shouting over her shoulder to her busboy across the room ("這座有三位!!")-- and you find yourself seated in front of scalloped paper placemats & a kettle of 鐵觀音 tea, you know you picked an OG spot.

Admittedly, if I'd read the reviews before coming here, I wouldn't have even considered it (yikes)... But my family picked this spot upon sight of the burgeoning popularity through the open door. We found street parking easily and were seated within 5 mins.

$50 for 7 dishes is a fantastic deal. They're no high-class, super polished Chinese banquet room, but it's solid traditional dim sum. Cooks popped dishes out quicker than the poor busboy could clear tables. We received our entire order after 15 mins.

PUMPKIN W/ "FROG" IN EGG YOLK: Likely a typo, since this is just your standard fried pumpkin with salted egg yolk breading, sans frog. Pretty good, the eggs were deliciously savory and crisp.

STUFFED MUSHROOM W/ SHRIMP: It's average. Tender mushrooms & adequately-seasoned shrimp. Tasty, but nothing spectacular.

STEAMED BEAN CURD ROLL: Underneath the sauce, there was this odd, plasticky flavor? My family came to the conclusion that this was probably frozen. Maybe that's why servers were fast?

COCONUT MOCHI: We impulse-ordered these as the server walked by with her platter. They're wonderfully light & chewy, oozing with fillings like mango, sweet-savory egg yolk, and red bean.

The rest of the 3/7 dishes I didn't try, but my family said that they weren't bad. King Kong reminded them of family businesses they've been to in Taiwan. I've been to hole-in-the-wall dim sum spots plenty of times-- whether with my parents, extended family, Chinese school friends, or whatever cohort of Asians-- and I gotta say, these places may be a little rough around the edges, but the food is guaranteed authentic 99.99%. Frozen bean curd not included :P

Ordered takeout from here.  The food is decent for the price.  The parking can get tough to find at times.

The wait staff was helpful but not the friendly type.  Overall a solid 3 stars.
